Gemma Cornish dives into fashion and sustainability through wetsuits and swimwear with her brand – Gemma Lee.
Gemma has been an ocean-lover since birth. It’s no surprise that at 26-years-old she has channelled her passion for the water into her work. Her brand Gemma Lee designs and manufactures wetsuits and swimsuits. By combining fashion and sustainability with ethical production Gemma is changing the swimwear industry. Her products are easily recognisable by the bright fun colours she uses. Not to mention the stunning patterns and form factor.
I’m very inspired by the ’60s, ’70s – I love retro!”
When it comes to advice for young entrepreneurs looking to follow along the same path, Gemma says the best thing you can do is just put yourself out there. There’s always a lesson to be learned. Even in failure.
“You miss 100% of the shots you don’t make. The biggest thing is just self-confidence and believing that you can do it.”
What sets Gemma Lee apart from other surf and swimwear brands is the means by which she sources and manufactures their products. Using limestone-based neoprene instead of the typical petroleum-based materials. Gemma focuses on the quality and environmental impact of her swimwear. Gemma Lee is proof that form and function dont need to be compromised for a greener future.
“My wetsuits are made out of limestone-based neoprene, which makes them more durable, warmer, and all these awesome extra characteristics that just makes wetsuits stay out of landfills longer.”
Gemma continues to grow and expand her business. Changing the game for the swimwear market and revolutionising it into something both sustainable and fashionable. Next time your in the market for a new wetsuit be sure to check out Gemma Lee!
