Has the universe delivered? Not that owning New Zealand’s premium business news agency with power, reach, influence, and a gob-smackingly impressive track record is a bad start for this Wellington boy, Done well.
The universe’s embrace has taken both its toll and delivered love, peace, and wholeness for Mr Todd Scott. Any quick search shows a few scuffles and a big hit from a mentor and trusted father-like figure. Something in that appears unresolved and to have unsettled the missle-like boy from Wellington.
When Scott slows and makes a point, it’s clear it’s had an impact. The rest of the time, the milestones, celebrations, and achievements just fly by as if that’s just to be expected.
Few people possess that type of drive, and we wonder, wtf is this guy on? Fear of failure? Hating to be wrong. He doesn’t have a low EQ, so we are CURIOUS.
Scott says, moving to Fiji, showing you can work to live, Scott took a big gamble, leaving Auckland and his whole workforce behind, and it has paid off, BIG time.
Operating successfully in a market dominated by global nasty weights, Meta & Google, and a down-trending media landscape, that should see his business content system struggling, but he has made bold moves to put the content behind a paywall and give himself space to grow and live a life.
Almost all media commentators said taking NBR behind a paywall would end in disaster. The writer could not find one reporter who said it would work. How wrong they were.
Living in Fiji now, Scott’s team describes him as a fierce competitor, and his competitors describe him as a working wonder. Direct, bold, and uncomfortable standing still.
In a matter of 5 hours, since I asked if he would consent to an article, in the hard to be selected, “WL, Where are they Now series”, the writer has been bombarded with stats, facts, links, and fun stories of wonderment, which brings us to Scott’s Wellington connection.
He is described as a good Wellington man, with a desire to take risks and have a great time. There are many many stories, all involving a work hard, play hard ethos!
At 19, Scott opened a closed-down butcher shop in Hataitai and called it Cuisine Meats, “Meals made easy”. As usual, Scott was way ahead of the curve.
He describes Fiji as a 3rd world country but suggests NZ is lawless, so it is safer here.
“That said, “in the 3 years that I have lived here, it’s become apparent that Fiji is more corrupt today than at any time I have visited over the last 30 years”.
“Fijians now openly ask guests at resorts for money. You pay $500 a night and they deliberately withhold things that should be in your room so that when you call them and ask for those items to be delivered to your room, the maid that brings it, asks you for money because they don’t get paid enough”.
“There’s also a very good reason why the drug P is being found floating in the ocean where it has been found by the navy, who have been tipped off by Seven Eyes”
One concludes Todd Scott has done well. With connections and friendships lasting decades, he is both loved and celebrated as yet another Wellington lad done exceedingly well.
The next time Todd is in town, we will track him down and present the “Wellington LIVE Umbrella Award”.
An award presented to great people with unforgettable Wellington roots and stories.
