Dog and cat guardians residing in Porirua and Hutt Valley are cordially invited to have their furry companions desexed at no cost courtesy of the SPCA’s purpose-built Mobile Desexing Clinic during May and June.
The organisation is thrilled to announce the commencement of a new tour for its mobile desexing service, following the successful debut tour in Northland last September. This initiative aims to prevent the birth of approximately 1,100 kittens and puppies in the Porirua and Hutt Valley regions, thereby significantly curbing the number of vulnerable and abandoned animals left to fend for themselves within these communities.
The Mobile Desexing Clinic will be operational in Porirua from the 7th to the 31st of May and in the Hutt Valley from the 4th to the 21st of June. Pet owners in these areas requiring desexing services for their animals can schedule appointments starting today.
In light of New Zealand’s current challenge of a burgeoning population of unwanted companion animals, Rebecca Dobson, SPCA National Desexing Programme Manager, emphasizes desexing as the most effective solution to address this issue. “There is a crisis of strays, and we are seeing more and more animals who cannot be cared for. Some are dumped, and many suffer senselessly from living without the care they need,” Ms Dobson explains. “Desexing owned animals is essential to stem this population growth, and SPCA is so pleased to be able to help these areas where we have seen a real need.”
