A serious assault occurred at Wellington Girls’ College in Thorndon this friday, resulting in one student being hospitalized with serious injuries. Police and emergency services were dispatched to the scene on Pipitea Street shortly after 10 AM following reports of the incident.
The school administration confirmed that two students were involved in the altercation. To ensure the privacy and safety of those involved, students were temporarily asked to remain in their classrooms. However, the school has reassured parents and the public that the situation is under control and classes have resumed as normal. Lunchtime activities are also proceeding as scheduled.
Principal Julia Davidson released a statement emphasizing that the well-being of the school community is the top priority. The school is cooperating fully with the police investigation and providing necessary support to those affected. While the incident is undoubtedly distressing, Davidson stressed that it was an isolated event and the school remains a safe environment for students.
Meanwhile, police have confirmed that they are currently interviewing the second student involved in the incident. The investigation is ongoing and further details are expected to be released as they become available.
