The Free Festival Made by Wellington’s Young People
- Judah Plester

We all know that Wellington is an incredibly special place. But like anywhere the people within are what make it truly special and Wellington is no different especially when it comes to young people. Well what happens when you get a group of passionate young people determined to create something different, well you get Paekakariki’s very own Pickle Pot. A music festival event with some very special parts, local artists, creative activities, social awareness activities and some beautiful homemade food. And did I mention none of it costs a cent and it’s entirely alcohol and substance free.

Now who’s behind this incredible event? Caleb Jack Williams, Aurélie Grailhe-Bray and Huia Max. A group of friends all under the age of 25 passionate about making a family friendly event with impact. And I must say I truly believe they have been one hundred percent successful in this venture. The 2023 event held on the 11th of February was an immense success. From the musical performances, to the free vegan wrap meal right down to the global movement just screamed their passion and is a reminder of just what young people in Wellington can do. All it takes is an idea and an insane amount of passion, to create some incredible things!
