WellingtonNZ and CentrePort have officially launched the 2025–26 cruise season, with ships arriving earlier than expected — and optimism high for another strong year of visitor spending in the capital.

The Carnival Splendor, carrying over 3,000 passengers, will dock at CentrePort on Friday morning, kicking off a season expected to bring 71 cruise calls between October 2025 and April 2026. Vessels will range from luxury liners carrying just 146 passengers to mega-ships with nearly 5,000 guests.

Tourism and business leaders say the season will inject tens of millions of dollars into Wellington’s economy. Offering a major boost for local tourism, hospitality, and retail sectors.

While overall cruise visits across New Zealand are forecast to dip slightly. Wellington’s numbers remain steady — down just two ships from last year.
