During his visit, the then Duke of York attended engagements with the Royal New Zealand Army Logistic Regiment at Trentham and the 2nd Logistic Battalion at Linton. The visit was part of his official role as Colonel-in-Chief of the regiment, aimed at strengthening defence ties between New Zealand and the United Kingdom.

At the time, the visit drew polite public interest and modest local coverage — one of several official trips Prince Andrew made to Commonwealth nations in the mid-2000s, before his later withdrawal from frontline royal duties.

Following renewed scrutiny over his long-documented links to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, Buckingham Palace confirmed that King Charles III has directed his younger brother to relinquish his “Prince” title and vacate Royal Lodge, his long-term Windsor residence.
