Sarah Meikle and the hype around Visa Wellington On A Plate
- Keenan Rogers
Visa Wellington on a Plate will soon be upon us with Wellingtonians being able to rock out with their phones out and live their foodie dreams, with pretty much every restaurant in Wellington offering unique burgers and cocktails. Not to mention the events that are planned too. August will give you a reason to head out and brace the cold for a unique culinary experience.
So why do we always look forward to WOAP? Is it for a burger? Or is it for a cocktail? We could get those at any restaurant. We look forward to it because it is a fun movement to be a part of. Eateries all over the region advertise this, and people love participating! Wellington is seen as the culinary capital of New Zealand, and WOAP is a testament to that.

The average price for a WOAP burger is between $20 – $30, pretty standard pricing, but what if I told you there was a burger that smashed that price range right out of the park coming in at a whopping $185. Yes, you read that right. Le Burger Bourgeoisie (aptly named) has been circulating the media since it was first announced, because when you display the most expensive burger in Wellington of course all eyes are going to be on your restaurant. Mix that with WOAP and it’s like double the exposure. Can you imagine though, saying you tried the most expensive burger in Wellington? You gotta admit, it would be something to show off. To anyone curious about where to try Le Burger Bourgeoisie, you can experience this at the Jardin Grill located at the Sofitel.

It may seem ridiculous to spend a lot of money on a burger or cocktail given the economic climate of the world right now. But, here in Wellington we are absolute simps for unique dishes and quirky cocktails – I’ve already chosen the burgers that are going to bankrupt me. When we get to August get amongst it, enjoy the food, and experience the fun and extravagant festival that is Wellington on a Plate. After all, we are in the culinary capital.
