Watch a remarkable man, meet Bill Day (MNZM, JP) who founded Wellington Hospitals Foundation in 2005. He is a community leader and inspiration to many and is a Justice of the Peace.
In 2015 Bill received a Queens Honour as Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit for his services to the Community and Health.
So many lives have been improved, saved and families supported and he has been a critical inspiration with the Life Flight Trust (Westpac Rescue Helicopter) since 1981.
He was a former Chair of Life Flight Trust (15 years) and Director of Wellington Free Ambulance (15 years).
This inspiration from a man who started his career in banking retired from a senior position with Westpac marketing, after 33 years, and was the CEO of New Zealand Community Trust for seven years.
In 2023 he was awarded Wellingtonian of the Year in the Community Service category and was the man who convinced Sir Mark Dunajtschik to donate 50 m to build the Children’s Hospital.
A remarkable feat in Wellington and New Zealand history.
Mark commented in an interview with Graham Bloxham, “Bill called me one day, told me about his vision, and how it might improve children’s lives, I was immediately captured by his comprehensive plan, it was like he had already built it, and I was in immediately”
Mr Day has set up a strong platform for all of his past endeavours, such that, they have all become incredible successes and marvellous contributors to a healthy, safe, prosperous community.
A true Wellington Champion who is humble, widely appreciated and a truly wonderful man.
