Wellington is mourning the loss of one of its most respected community figures after Dr Richard Tyler, a highly regarded specialist GP, was tragically killed by a falling tree branch during Tuesday’s powerful winds.

Emergency services were called to Lookout Road in Mt Victoria shortly after 9:20am. Following reports that a man had been struck by a falling branch amid the severe weather sweeping the capital. Despite the best efforts of paramedics, Dr Tyler later passed away in hospital. His death has been referred to the coroner.
